The Green Heart of the Randstad is a special region in the Netherlands. It is very centrally located and offers many recreational opportunities with an exceptional green character. At a short distance, you can make cultural trips, such as the Gouda cheese market, various museums, tree nurseries, silversmithies, cheese factories, and a candle factory.
Various city trips to Gouda, Utrecht, Amsterdam, The Hague, Delft, Rotterdam, and Leiden within a radius of 50 km. Below is a small selection from the many possibilities.
Beautiful, varied bike routes take you right through the vast cultural landscape of the Green Heart. Here you will discover that Holland can still be truly Holland. In the authentic South Holland polder landscape, you will be amazed by the many meadow birds that live here. Along the way, you pass old farms, windmills, nurseries, and small nature reserves. Along the Reeuwijkse Plassen (Reeuwijk Lakes), it's wonderful to cycle, with beautiful bike paths along the lakes. An ideal cycling area. There are even paths that take you right through it, with water on both sides.
The struggle against water in the Netherlands is timeless. Controlling the water level is a primary condition for all life in this region. Without the windmills, you simply wouldn't be able to live here. During your bike tour, the differences in water levels will surely catch your attention!
There are many bike routes to be found on the internet. We also have bike maps for you with the nodes mostly indicated.
The Green Heart is a peat meadow area within the Randstad where you can also take beautiful walks. There are various routes set out along paths, but also through the meadows, so that you can admire the primeval Dutch polder landscape with its rich flora and fauna. We have various routes available for you.
Within a radius of 5 km, there are more than ten restaurants to choose from. A small selection is indicated below with a link. You can definitely make a choice from this varied offer! Of course, we would be happy to help you with your choice and can make a reservation for you if desired.
The Reeuwijkse Plassen is an excellent place for a beautiful walk. These lakes, located between Gouda and Reeuwijk, have a lot to offer. They are a paradise for birds that settle here in large numbers in summer and winter. It is no coincidence that a large part of this area has been designated as a Natura 2000 area. Between the lakes, you walk along narrow paths and around the water, you experience the old polder land with its wood quays, reed fringes, dikes, and farm paths. It doesn't get more Dutch than this!

Neeltje Jans is a flat, chop, small and medium waves spot. It is a kitesurfing spot for riders of any level. The water theme park here is a well-known visitor attraction, but only a few know that there is also a fantastic surf spot on the island north of the barrier. At high tide, you can rip the wide surf belt against a lonely dune backdrop, but don't go too far out because of the current! At low tide a big shallow area forms, ideal for kiting – although the approach of over 500m will probably ensure that purists remain among themselves here in the future.

The museum takes its name from the art collector, anthroposophist and agricultural pioneer Marie Tak van Poortvliet (1871-1936), who in the early twentieth century had a villa built in Domburg and spent many summers there in the company of the painter Jacoba van Heemskerck (1876-1923). Zeeland seemed to naturally to attract artists, this attraction was enhanced by the unsophisticated beauty of the surroundings, the special light along the coast and its reflection over the land have inspired many poets, composers and writers, but also – and above all – painters.

The Municipal Koenraad Bosman Museum (Museum of Art and Urban History) is named after the Dutch museum patron, the engineer and entrepreneur Koenraad Bosman (b. 1918/d. 2000). The two-story, five-axis building from around 1850 with the new extension includes 418 square meters of exhibition space. The house has two main focuses: art and the city's history. Under the museum building there is an accessible casemate for lighter guns, built around 1500.

It is a stone flour mill of the tower mill type. On the ground floor there is an entrance for carts with grain. The hood can turn itself in the right direction by means of a self-tilting mechanism. The height from the mill to the top of the roof is seventeen meters. The blade cross has a diameter of approximately 22 meters. The diameter of the hull on the ground floor is six meters. The blades are propeller blades designed by Kurt Bilau. The mill has been owned by the same family since about 1870, but has changed names a few times. From Hermanns-Mühle to Rosenbaum-Mühle and finally Scholten-Mühle. This was because a few times there was only a daughter who could take over the mill and she then took her husband's name. From 1885 to 1914, the mill was assisted by a steam generator on windless days. Between 1914 and 1950 a gas turbine was used for this. The last full-time miller was Johannes Scholten. He died in 1963, after which the mill was decommissioned. The Scholten mill is privately owned and is used as a flour mill and bakery. The mill takes part in the annual open mill days on Pentecost Monday. Grain is occasionally ground and the flour is baked into bread in the baking house's ovens. The mill is open on Saturdays during the summer months and can also be visited by appointment.

The truly impressive Enchanted Forest mural alongside the canal in Lembeek is part of the Scintillating Senne project of the city of Halle. Through this surprising and creative use of public space, we are aiming to introduce residents and visitors alike to the public sphere alongside the Senne. The project took nearly a month to complete, and around 950 litres of environmentally friendly paint were used along the way.

Old gueuze is a beer with a long history. This lambic-based delicacy used to be produced in and around Brussels by hundreds of breweries, both large and small. By the 1970s, many of those breweries and blending facilities had become outdated. They operated primarily using traditional, artisanal methods with primitive equipment that required a great deal of manual labor. Even René De Vits’s geuze blending facility in Lembeek—the last of its kind—was in danger of closing. But that was without counting on Frank Boon. He took over the facility and invested in modernization while honoring tradition. Since 1990, he has been brewing Lambiek Boon, the base for delicious beers such as Geuze Mariage Parfait, Oude Geuze Boon, Oude Kriek Boon, and Faro Boon. Brewery Boon also brews Duivelsbier, a heavy dark beer and a specialty of Halle.
