Bed & Breakfast Pax Tibi

The main building dates from 1872
In the heart of the Green Heart, in the South Holland village of Reeuwijk, lies the water-surrounded farm ‘Pax Tibi’, which means ‘Peace be with You’. This stylish farmhouse was built almost 150 years ago in the year 1872, probably commissioned by the van Donk family. The first stone was laid by the then 11-year-old Mya van Donk on March 8 of that year. During later renovations, a small plank appeared with the inscription: “This house was finished by L. Zaal in 1873”. A greeting from the 19th century!

In 1923, the pigsty was built
In 1923, the farm was purchased by the van Zoest family. It came with 12 hectares of land where they kept cows, pigs, and sheep. Behind the farm stands a brick barn with a gable roof of glazed roof tiles dating from 1927, where pigs were kept. Two more generations of the van Zoest family farmed here until 1987.

In 1937 the beech trees were planted
In the birth year of Princess Beatrix, the three (now large) beech trees in the front garden were planted. The trees stand for faith, hope and love.

Starting in 1988, the renovation began
In 1988, the farm came into the possession of the Scheer family. The accompanying land then went to a new tree nursery area. The Scheer family restored the farm, which from that moment on is no longer used as an active farm, but does house a number of hobby animals, such as sheep, goats, pigs, rabbits, pigeons and chickens.

The start of Bed and Breakfast Pax Tibi in 2003
In July 2003, Marian Scheer-Verdegaal started Bed & Breakfast Pax Tibi, named after the farm. The three children had left home, and it became quiet around the farm. To determine if there would be a demand for a Bed & Breakfast, the old bedrooms of the children were first rented out. Not much later, six comfortable, luxurious rooms were created in the former pig sty on the farm, each with its own luxurious bathroom. Every morning, breakfast is served in the old cow barn in a homely atmosphere.

The takeover in 2012
After Marian has welcomed many guests with great pleasure for nine years, she wants to take it a bit easier. Marian and her husband Cock don't want to leave this beautiful place... Therefore, they rebuilt the old summer house, which must have been built around 1872, according to an old photo. The clipped neck gable is restored to its original state, but the house is built according to modern sustainable techniques. Marian and her husband will live here from the end of 2012. Katja wanted to continue the Bed & Breakfast and moved with her family into the old farm.

2013-present
After a long preparation, it was official in January 2013, and Katja and Edwin, to this day, continue the bed and breakfast!
